The events unfolded in Potsin, within the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, causing apprehension among residents.

The victim, identified as Philip Dadzie, a second-year junior high school student, was discovered in a wooded area, drenched in blood, on July 26, 2023. He had sustained severe machete injuries across various parts of his body.

Initial reports indicated that he had been assaulted by unidentified attackers who had sought directions from him while he was on an early morning jog along the Potsin Dominase stretch.

The public responded with sympathy, prompting even community members abroad to contribute funds to support his medical expenses.

However, recent revelations have astonished the community. It has now been revealed that the teenager incurred the machete wounds as a consequence of an altercation with security personnel at the Dominase Onion Market, where he attempted theft.

According to reliable sources from Citi News, on the day in question, the suspect visited the market in the company of four older individuals aged between 25 and 30.

As per reports, upon being confronted by a market security guard, the suspect brandished a knife in an attempt to attack the guard. In response, the guard defended himself by inflicting multiple machete strikes on the suspect.

Subsequently, the injured suspect managed to flee the scene and was later rescued by his companions. They left him on the fringes of the Potsin township and coerced him to provide a misleading account of the incident.

After media coverage of the matter, the market’s security personnel approached the Potsin police station, where they disclosed the accurate sequence of events.

Upon police interrogation, the suspect conceded his involvement in the attempted theft at the market. Following treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, he was released and is presently cooperating with the police inquiry. Simultaneously, law enforcement is pursuing the remaining suspects involved in the case.
