Netizens ‘reject’ Kennedy Agyapong as “presidential material”

A video of Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament and an aspirant for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sparked mixed reactions on social media.

In the video, Mr Agyapong was seen venting his anger while mentioning President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamamudu Bawumia’s names, for allegedly sacking his polling agent during the party’s primary election in the Central Region.

Agyapong’s harsh words have ignited a debate among netizens about his suitability to run for president in 2024. Some have expressed doubt about his presidential qualities, while others have praised his honesty and popularity.

Those who doubt Agyapong’s presidential credentials have pointed out his tendency to be outspoken and controversial, which they think might not fit the diplomatic role of a president. They wonder whether he can exercise the necessary restraint and respect that a leader should have.

One Twitter user, @__Sharyf, summed up this view in a tweet: “You can say what you want but Kennedy Agyapong is not presidential material.”

On the other hand, those who support Agyapong’s presidential ambition have highlighted his candidness and connection with the masses. They believe that Agyapong’s frankness and courage have earned him the admiration of many Ghanaians who see him as a champion of their interests.

This group suggests that a break from the conventional political culture might be beneficial for the country to bring new ideas and solutions.

They also argue that Agyapong could run as an independent candidate and win the presidency with his grassroots appeal.

As the conversation goes on, netizens are divided over whether Agyapong’s blunt style and popular base could make him the next president, potentially changing the political landscape of the country.
