NACOC officials seize US$1.4m worth of suspected narcotic drugs

At Accra’s Central Post Office on Tuesday, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) discovered suspected narcotics drugs worth US$1.4 million.

NACOC representatives found five brown boxes with the logo “Ghana Post” at the post office, each containing 150 packets of coffee marked “Café Naijar Classic” and all intended for the United Arab Emirates.

The 150 packets included 93,600 tablets with an estimated street value of US$ 1.4 Million, according to a statement signed by Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, Head of Public Affairs and International Relations Department, NACOC.

It claimed that the tablets had tested positive for the narcotic substance amphetamine in a field test.

In accordance with the statement, samples of the exhibits had been sent to the Ghana Standards Authority for analytical review while inquiries were ongoing.

It gave the public advice to abstain from drug trafficking, which was illegal in accordance with Section 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020. (Act 1019).

In particular, it recommended people to inspect the contents of packages before accepting custody, especially around and before Christmas.
