A Russian military blogger who wrote negative things about Russia’s actions in Ukraine was taken into custody in Moscow today, as reported by state news agency RIA Novosti.
Andrey Kurshin is a blogger who manages the Moscow Calling Telegram channel. This channel has around 87,000 followers.
The administrator of the Moscow Calling telegram channel, Andrey Kurshin, is being accused of spreading false information about the Russian army. A criminal case has been opened against him. This information was reported by RIA Novosti on Thursday.
The agency said that Moscow investigators are looking into the case while the person in question is being held as a suspect.
The Institute for the Study of War says that Kurshin is not a popular blogger, but someone who strongly believes in extreme nationalism. He often criticizes Russia’s military actions in the Ukrainian war, but also supports the ultranationalist objectives behind the war.
ISW stated that the Russian ultra-nationalist community was happy about Kurshin’s arrest and mentioned that he often criticized the MoscowRussian military.
This happened after a well-known Russian blogger who supported war, Igor Girkin, was arrested in July. Girkin did not agree with Russian President Vladimir Putin and thought he made mistakes in Ukraine.
In April, a Russian military blogger named Vladlen Tatarsky died in a bomb blast at a cafe in downtown St. PetersburgPetersburg, where he was visiting as a guest of a group that supports war.
Daria Trepova, a 26-year-old person who opposes war, was taken into custody and accused of committing terrorism crimes related to the event. Investigators believe that Trepova, who was told to do so by Ukraine, brought a statue filled with explosives to the location and gave it to Tatarsky.
