Member of George Santos campaign admits to fraud

A high-ranking official working for Congressman George Santos has admitted to being part of a plan to cheat people.

Nancy Marks went to court on Thursday and admitted that she lied about some of the campaign’s money records.

According to prosecutors, she informed that Mr. Santos falsely stated that he had given the campaign a loan of $500,000 (£410,000).

This is the most recent problem for the Republican lawmaker, who has also been charged with multiple crimes.

During her time in court, Ms. Marks explained to the judge that she was aware the loan had not been given, according to the New York Times.

The incorrect information made it seem like the campaign met the requirements to get money from the national Republican Party.

Prosecutors are also claiming that the campaign falsely reported receiving money from at least 10 relatives of Mr.

Ms Marks got arrested on Thursday and said her plea in a federal court in Long Island.

She might have to go to jail for as long as four years based on her current plea agreement. She was let go from jail by paying a $100,000 bond that she didn’t need to provide collateral for.

According to her lawyer, Ray Perini, Mr. Santos had a strong influence on his client’s mind.

Just after Mr. Santos was elected to represent a suburban area in New York in 2022, the New York Times and other news sources said that he lied about important parts of his resume and life story.

He was closely examined for his doubtful reporting and how he used his money for his campaign.

Mr Santos was accused in May of committing wire fraud, lying to the US House of Representatives, money laundering, and stealing public funds.

Even though people have asked him to quit, Mr. Santos still works in Congress and actively seeks attention.

But he has confessed to making his resume sound better than it actually is.
