Kylian Mbappe has addressed the speculation surrounding his future after informing Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be exercising the option to extend his contract until 2025.
The talented forward’s current contract with the Ligue 1 champions is due to expire at the end of the season, with a potential extension for an extra year.
In a letter sent to PSG, Mbappe made it clear that he has no intention of activating the contract’s extension clause under any circumstances.
As reported by GOAL, Les Parisiens are contemplating placing the 24-year-old on the transfer market, as the Paris-based club are not prepared to lose their record goal-scorer for free when his current deal runs out.
However, in an effort to provide clarity, Mbappe has come forward to share his perspective on the matter of his contract renewal.
“I have never discussed a renewal with PSG,” he told AFP, as quoted by PSG Report.
“The management of the club in charge has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter sent was only intended to confirm what had already been clarified orally beforehand.”
The 2018 World Cup winner’s choice not to extend his contract delivers another setback to the French champions, compounding the recent departure of Lionel Messi, who chose not to renew his contract and instead join MLS club Inter Miami.
PSG clarify Mbappe exit talks
In a related publication, the French youngster’s reported decision to forfeit renewing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain has opened the doors for speculation, with reports gushing in like never before, Sports Brief reported.
PSG chief, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understandably infuriated with the constant flirting between Real Madrid and Mbappe, as has been a constant theme in recent years.
As such, the Spanish publication claims PSG will consider selling their star to any club except the La Liga giants.
