“I am still on good terms with Bawumia” – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent flagbearer aspirant within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed details on his current relationship with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Amidst speculations of a tensions between the two politicians, Agyapong asserted that he remains on good terms with the Vice President.

In recent months, political circles have buzzed with conjecture about the state of relations between Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Both influential figures within the NPP, they find themselves in a tussle for the same position within the party. Agyapong has not been one to shy away from expressing his views in the media, often taking potshots at the Vice President. He recently stirred controversy by suggesting that Bawumia might possess knowledge about the whereabouts of the murderer of Ahmed Suale, a prominent investigative journalist who was killed in 2019.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Agyapong, in an interview on Kessben TV, disclosed that he and Vice President Bawumia had maintained a line of communication, dispelling rumours of bad blood between them.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament revealed that their most recent conversation occurred shortly after his infamous ‘showdown’ outburst during the August 26 NPP superdelegates conference.

Agyapong went on to credit Sammy Awuku, a former National Organizer of the NPP and a key figure in the Bawumia campaign for the party’s flagbearership, for facilitating the conversation. He commended Awuku as a levelheaded individual within the party and expressed personal fondness for him.

“I am still on good terms with him (Bawumia), one of his aides, who is very sensible is Sammy Awuku. He is a young boy who knows his onions. Because of our relationship, whenever anything happens, he comes to me to resolve the issues,” Agyapong stated during the interview.

He further elaborated on the circumstances surrounding their conversation, stating, “After my showdown outburst, Sammy Awuku called the Vice President, and we spoke. I explained matters to him.”

Agyapong used the opportunity to address the misperceptions surrounding their relationship, stating, “Isn’t it the case that today Bawumia makes jest of showdown? His vile followers are the problem; they don’t even know that I talk to him.”

The revelation of ongoing communication between Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Bawumia offers a different perspective on the dynamics within the NPP, raising questions about the accuracy of prior assumptions regarding their relationship.
