The Chale Wote Street Art Festival will take place in Osu’s Black Star Square this year.
It is reported that this year there will be no events in Jamestown.
The Festival will take place from Monday, August 21 to Sunday, August 27.
On Tuesday, August 22 through Thursday, August 24, the Castle Gardens will host Chale Wote Film LABS and knowledge-sharing salons.
The event will offer hands-on digital art and photography training sessions for visitors and the general public. There will be 17 films screening at the Film LABS from Ghana, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.
“This 2023 cycle of Chale Wote Street Art Festival is a celebration of over a decade of
offering some of the most iconic public art interventions by African artists, as well as co-
creations with collaborators from across the world,” a press release announcing the 13th edition of the Festival said.
“Black Star Square, the adjoining streets and the Osu community will witness a new wave of artists creating some of the most innovative contemporary works of art in Africa.”
Leading Ghanaian and international artists will exhibit outdoor murals along the new festival perimeter.

The story will also be performed as a musical theater piece called MEMORY MOVEMENT
FREEDOM by multiple community based performance, dance troupes and brass band.
Ghanaian art collective AFUABE will create live murals detailing the former Gold Coast’s long history of resistance against colonial invasions.
Additionally, there will be performance art exhibits, graffiti, and four stages with 120 musicians.
Independent artists will participate in the SHIKA Art Fair at the Christianborg Castle.
The art fair supports and showcases dynamic presentations and works from inter-generational artists working outside of gallery spaces.
For the first time, the renowned HIGHLIFE CAFÉ will open in Black Star Square.
alongside the Accra Cookout serving both traditional and unusual foods from the city.
Since its inception in 2011, CHALE WOTE has established an unmatched reputation for regularly hosting hundreds of performances and exhibitions on various stages throughout the festival grounds.
