Cecilia Dapaah did not threaten me; she was very nice – Martin Kpebu

A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has denied allegations of a confrontation with former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, in relation to the seizure of her assets by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Cecilia Dapaah on Wednesday, October 11, sought the assistance of the private legal practitioner, after the High Court considered arguments to expedite the confirmation of freezing and seizure orders related to her case.

Cecilia Dapaah was captured in a series of photos shared by the Legal Platform portal engaging with Lawyer Martin Kpebu.

In one particular photograph, the former Minister is seen pointing her left hand toward the prominent anti-corruption advocate.

Martin Kpebu was present in Financial Court 2 to represent his client in a separate case while the proceedings for Cecilia Dapaah’s case were underway.

Consistently, the outspoken lawyer has supported the OSP’s decision to investigate Dapaah, seize money discovered at her residence, and freeze her bank accounts due to suspicions of illicit activities.

In response to these assertions, Cecilia Dapaah, seemingly affected by the remarks, reportedly accused Martin Kpebu of making unfair and biased statements.

However, speaking to the media Mr. Kpebu refuted these claims, stating that Madam Dapaah was polite during their interaction.

He clarified that Madam Dapaah merely inquired about the “commentaries I have been running.”

“It’s normal, I owe no grudges against Cecilia Dapaah, to be very honest with you, considering what she is going through, I can understand so I am not bothered about the picture that has gone viral. Considering what she is going through, as against the conversation we had, she was very cordial. She was a bit very polite. She didn’t threaten me, polite is a better word. No, she wasn’t fighting me,” he added.

Mr. Kpebu asserted that he has the right to engage in public discourse and has, thus far, made statements grounded in available facts.
He stated, “We comment based on the facts and we use the law, you know, public interest. We have to do it. It is part of our job as citizens. We have to contribute to the public debate and all that. That was what she was asking about. I said yes, Madam, it is part of our job, and I will continue.”
