Alan’s withdrawal from the party is ‘unfortunate’ – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted that it will address the resignation of former presidential aspirant, John Alan Kyerematen on Tuesday.

In a press statement issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party deemed Mr Kyerematen’s resignation “unfortunate”.

“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a long-standing member of the Party to forfeit his membership and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections,” the statement read.

Mr Kyerematen announced his resignation when he addressed the country during a press conference at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra today, September 25, 2023.

He noted that he no longer recognizes the NPP, which has been unfair to himself and his supporters, as its current aims and agenda no longer reflect what the founding fathers had hoped to achieve.

According to the former Trade Minister, he will contest for the office of president as an independent candidate in 2024 with his new party, Movement for Change.

Mr Kyerematen was among the contenders for the NPP flagbearer position, but on September 5, he declared his withdrawal from the race, citing reasons such as electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the super delegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.

The leadership of the party has meanwhile urged the rank and file of our great Party to remain calm and await an official address by the Party to Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Party headquarters.
