GHANAsoccernet.com has reported that Asante Kotoko SC has reappointed former coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum to lead the club in the upcoming season. The appointment was announced by the Manhyia Palace, as per information from Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio.
Dr. Ogum previously guided the club to victory in the Ghana Premier League, securing the title after an eight-year wait. However, he left the club after the 2021-22 season.
Following his departure, the club appointed Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo, who managed the team in various competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the MTN FA Cup. Unfortunately, Zerbo was dismissed midway through the season after a defeat to Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Assistant coach Abdul Gazale took charge on a temporary basis until the end of the season. Gazale, who was also involved in managing the club’s youth side, led the team to a respectable fourth-place finish with 52 points from 34 matches.
Dr. Ogum’s return to the helm is expected to bring leadership in the club’s recruitment and pre-season preparations as they strive to reclaim the premiership title in the upcoming 2023-24 season.
In addition, the Manhyia Palace is anticipated to appoint a new executive board chairman in the coming days to oversee other operations before the season kicks off in September, as announced by the Ghana Football Association.
