Wrexham’s ambitious plans to secure a club-record transfer on deadline day hit a roadblock when the transfer window closed before they could complete the deal.
The League Two club, famously owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, had successfully negotiated terms to acquire the services of 27-year-old striker Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town.
In a surprising turn of events, Harrogate Town even officially announced Armstrong’s transfer to Wrexham, mentioning an undisclosed fee.
Wrexham reported that they had promptly submitted all the necessary paperwork to the English Football League to finalise the transfer.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the deal failed to materialise before the 11 p.m. BST deadline, leaving Armstrong to remain with Harrogate.
