What a player! Michael Essien lauds Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra after thrilling display at AFCON final

Ghanaian football icon and assistant coach at FC Nordsjaelland, Michael Essien, has heaped praise on Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra following his outstanding display in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on February 11, 2024.

Adingra played a pivotal role in Ivory Coast’s remarkable 2-1 comeback victory against Nigeria, providing assists for both goals.

In the aftermath of the match, Essien took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend the talented graduate of the Right to Dream Academy for his exceptional performance and extend his congratulations on the team’s triumph.

“What a player, Felicitation Mon @simon.adingra,” the Chelsea legend wrote.

The player from Brighton and Hove Albion showcased his prowess and was rightfully awarded the title of man-of-the-match.

In addition to his stellar performance, Simon Adingra clinched the Young Player of the Tournament accolade, capping off his tournament contributions with two assists and a goal.

With this victorious outcome, Ivory Coast has reached parity with Nigeria on the all-time AFCON title leaderboard, each securing three titles apiece.
