We celebrated Messi, even with a guard of honour – PSG boss rebuffs Messi’s claim

Al-Khelaifi has refuted such claims that Messi’s achievements were not congratulated upon his return, stating how it was always going to be tricky given Argentina had just beaten France so narrowly in the final.

“As everyone saw, because we even published a video, we celebrated Messi in training, and we also celebrated him in private,” he recently told RMC Sport. “But with respect, we are a French club. It was, of course, sensitive to celebrate at the stadium. We must respect the country he defeated, his teammates on the France team, and our supporters too.”

Given the warm reception he received upon his summer transfer to the United States, it’s improbable that the global superstar will be significantly troubled by this matter.

While Messi did receive a guard of honour upon his return to training, the Inter Miami forward appears to harbour some dissatisfaction. As a result, he concluded his two-year tenure with the club and made the move to MLS this summer.

Whether Messi chooses to address the statements made by PSG President Al-Khelaifi remains to be seen.
