Ruben Amorim has admitted that his Manchester United team could be the worst in the club’s history after their 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
United struggled throughout the match and couldn’t manage a single shot on target from open play as Brighton controlled the game at Old Trafford.
This defeat marks Amorim’s fourth home loss in the Premier League since he replaced Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed at the end of October.
“We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach,” Amorim said. “I have full knowledge of that. I am not going to change, no matter what.
“I know we can succeed but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now. We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.
“I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.”
After securing good results against Liverpool and Arsenal, Amorim stated that the matches against Southampton and Brighton would reveal more about his players.
Although United managed a 3-1 victory over Southampton, the league’s bottom team, they faced a tough challenge and narrowly avoided a setback. However, they were thoroughly outplayed in their defeat to Brighton.
Since taking charge, Amorim has lost seven out of 15 matches. United currently sit in 13th place on the table, just five spots and 10 points above the relegation zone.
“Everybody here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances, we are underperforming and have to accept that,” Amorim said.
“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games. For any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really hard moment but we have to continue, we have to continue, there is no other way. We need to suffer and continue.”
