The spokesperson for the Ayew brothers, Fifi Tackie, has seemingly reacted to the exclusion of Black Stars captain Andre Ayew from Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the upcoming crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Mali and Central African Republic next month.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Otoo Addo revealed the squad and mentioned that he had an extensive conversation with Ghana’s record appearance holder before making the decision. However, he chose not to disclose the details of their discussion.
“I had a long chat with Andre and gave him the reason why he is not in the squad. I talk to players directly and I don’t like to put information out about what we spoke about. This is the decision we took and it’s not like he necessarily agreed, but I still have big respect for him,” he said.
In a post after this news, Mr Tackie in a post on X platform reminded Ghanaians of Ayew’s dedication to the country despite the odds. He noted that Ayew remains proud of his country and will forever love his motherland.
“Andre Ayew’s dedication to Ghana is unwavering and lifelong, a commitment that began in his childhood and remains unshakeable to this day. Through thick and thin, he stands proudly as a son of the nation, his passion and loyalty to Ghana burning bright for all to see. Today, tomorrow, and forever, Andre Ayew’s heart beats for Ghana,” he wrote.
Ayew, 34, has netted 5 goals in 19 league appearances for French Ligue 1 side Le Havre this season.
Ghana, currently 4th in their group with three points, will face Mali in Bamako on June 6 before hosting the Central African Republic in Kumasi on June 10.
