Steven Gerrard wept heavily after Lucas touching post-season gift

Steven Gerrard, a former legendary player for Liverpool, broke down in tears after receiving a sweet gift from Lucas Leiva before leaving the team.

Gerrard, 42, left Anfield in 2015 after a sensational 17-year spell with the Reds.

And in his 2016 book, titled ‘My Story’, he opened up about a memorable exchange with former teammate Leiva, which occurred during a post-season trip to Dubai.

Gerrard wrote: “Lucas asked if he could come in for a moment.

“‘I’ve got a little something for you,’ he said.

“‘Of course,’ I said. I was always happy to see Lucas.

“He presented me with a silver salver. It was from him to me and he had written the words inscribed on the plate.

“‘I’ve been thinking about getting this done for a while,’ Lucas said. I felt a lump in my throat as I read his message.”

The former Liverpool captain then went on to detail what was inscribed on the salver.

It read: “We often hear the expression there will never be another. In your case, my friend, it is most definitely the case.

“A captain, leader and a legend in every sense of the word.

“Every moment I have spent on the pitch with you has been a privilege. The very best to you and your family with all your future endeavours – Lucas Leiva.

Gerrard recalled: “I just about held it together while Lucas quietly watched me read his words.

“I thanked him and he smiled happily. We hugged it out.

“But once he left, I was gone. There was no stopping my tears.”

The midfielder joined Liverpool in 1998 and made 710 appearances for the club during his 17-year spell.

He also won three League Cups, two FA Cups and a Champions League title with the Reds.

Steven Gerrard’s tenure at Liverpool is nothing short of legendary. The English midfielder spent his entire professional career at the club, cementing his status as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.

Gerrard made his debut for Liverpool in 1998 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team.

Known for his exceptional leadership, technical skills, and powerful long-range shooting, he became the heartbeat of the Liverpool side.

Gerrard’s versatility allowed him to excel in various positions, primarily as a central midfielder but also as a second striker or right midfielder when needed.

Throughout his time at Liverpool, Gerrard was instrumental in the club’s success.

He played a vital role in Liverpool’s historic UEFA Champions League triumph in 2005, inspiring the team with his remarkable performance in the final against AC Milan.

Gerrard’s iconic goal and overall contribution helped Liverpool stage a memorable comeback from a three-goal deficit to win the trophy.

Gerrard’s dedication and loyalty to Liverpool were evident throughout his career. He had opportunities to move to other top clubs, including Chelsea, but chose to stay and lead his boyhood team.

His commitment to Liverpool endeared him to the fans, who saw him as a symbol of the club’s values and passion.

After 17 remarkable years at Anfield, Gerrard bid farewell to Liverpool in 2015, moving to the MLS to join the LA Galaxy.

However, his legacy at Liverpool lives on, with his name forever etched in the club’s history.

Following his retirement as a player, Gerrard returned to Liverpool as a coach, initially overseeing the club’s youth academy before becoming the manager of Scottish club Rangers.

He remains an iconic figure in Liverpool’s rich footballing heritage and continues to be revered by fans worldwide.
