Son Heung Min has put an end to speculations surrounding a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia with a brief statement regarding his future.
The talented South Korean player did not perform at his peak for Spurs during the 2022/23 season, leading to discussions about the possibility of his departure from the Premier League.
ESPN reports had indicated that Son had caught the attention of clubs in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ittihad being the most likely destination for the 30-year-old.
Al-Ittihad recently became the second Saudi Arabian club to secure a major signing after unveiling Karim Benzema, who signed for free after his Real Madrid contract ended.
Son’s stance on his future
Despite links to Saudi Arabia, Son clarified that he would not be leaving the Premier League anytime soon as he believes he has ‘unfinished business’.
“I have many things to do in the Premier League,” he said as quoted on The Sun.
“Money doesn’t matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important.
“I want to play more for Tottenham.”
The Middle East club, managed by former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, were reportedly willing to offer Tottenham £51m for Son’s services.
Which other stars could join Saudi?
Despite Son’s unwillingness to leave the Premier League, the Saudi Arabia league is still set to reap massively from other big names.
Chelsea stars N’golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly are all poised to leave London for the Middle East, with Kante set to become an Al Ittihad player.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also announced on Tuesday that Hakim Ziyech had verbally agreed with Al-Nassr, a club that Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays for.
European clubs call for Saudi investigations
Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported growing suspicion over the transfer dealings between Saudi Arabia clubs and Chelsea.
The Middle Eastern nation has become a good hunting ground for elite football players following Cristiano Ronaldo’s blockbuster move to Al-Nassr in January.
There are concerns that Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers are using the lofty offers from the Middle East nation to balance out their books.
