Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that Nacho Fernández has departed the club, signaling an imminent move to the Saudi Pro League.
Nacho, who led the team to a Champions League and LaLiga double this season, leaves Madrid after his contract expired.
The 34-year-old defender has accumulated an impressive 26 trophies during his tenure with the club, including six Champions League titles, since joining at the age of 10.
He made his debut for the first team in 2012.
Currently part of the Spain squad, which secured a 1-0 victory over Albania on Monday to advance in the European 2024 tournament, Nacho is reportedly on the verge of joining Al Qadsiah in the SPL.
While initially in discussions with Al Ittihad, he opted for Al Qadsiah’s offer to expedite his future plans, according to sources familiar with the matter.
“Real Madrid would like to thank and express our appreciation to Nacho, one of the club’s biggest legends,” the statement said.
“Every Real Madrid fan is extremely proud of one of the most legendary youth academy graduates in our history.”
The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, added: “Since he arrived at our youth academy as a child, Nacho has been an example to everyone and has earned the affection, recognition and admiration of everyone at Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid is and always will be his home.”
