Radja Nainggolan, the 36-year-old Belgian footballer, has been taken into custody in connection with a cocaine trafficking investigation.
He was among several individuals arrested by Belgian authorities on Monday morning following multiple raids across the nation.
“The investigation concerns alleged facts of importation of cocaine from South America to Europe, via the port of Antwerp, and its redistribution in Belgium,” the Brussels prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
No additional details have been provided to the public.
This arrest comes just six days after Radja Nainggolan returned from retirement to join Lokeren, a club in Belgium’s second division.
On his debut, he scored and helped his team secure a 1-1 draw at home against K. Lierse.
Born in Antwerp, Nainggolan spent most of his career playing in Italy, where he represented Roma and Inter Milan.
He also earned 30 caps for the Belgium national team between 2009 and 2018.
