Mo Salah, Hakimi, others rank among top five highest-paid African footballers

African footballers are now earning salaries on par with players from other parts of the world, reflecting a growing recognition of their talents in the contemporary game.

Several African footballers have secured spots among the top 20 highest earners globally, setting a positive example for the future and reshaping the perception of African talent.

In light of this, let’s examine the five highest-earning African footballers.

Mohammed Salah

Mohamed Salah needed just over six minutes to score his hat-trick against Rangers

The list is led by Egypt and Liverpool winger, who earns an annual income of $53 million. Of this amount, $35 million comes from on-field activities, while an additional $18 million is earned off the field through brand influencing.

Sadio Mane, the winger for Al Nassr and Senegal, comes in second on the list with $48 million earned on the pitch. He also makes $4 million off the pitch, bringing his total yearly earnings to $52 million.

Riyad Mahrez

Algeria skipper and Al Ahli forward, Riyad Mahrez is the third-highest earner on the list. He earns a total of $32 million yearly – $30 million on the field and $2 million off the field.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Chelsea recruited highly-rated defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer

Senegal’s captain and Al Hilal defender, Kalidou Koulibaly, comes next on the list with an annual income of $26 million. He makes this amount through his on-field earnings, along with an additional $0.05 million off the field.

Achraf Hakimi

Achraf Hakimi

Morocco’s PSG star, Achraf Hakimi, is the last player on the list, earning $20 million annually. His on-field earnings are $15 million, and he adds another $5 million off the field.
