Sergio Gomez expressed gratitude to Pep Guardiola upon departing Manchester City for Real Sociedad.
Gomez joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and initially made an impactful start to the 2022–23 season, often substituting for Joao Cancelo.
However, as the season progressed, his role in the squad diminished due to injuries, leading to his departure from Guardiola’s plans. With just six Premier League appearances last season, the Spaniard has now moved on to join Imanol Alguacil’s team.
Real Sociedad secured Gomez’s services for €10 million (£8.3m/$10.9m) with a 30% sell-on clause.
The 23-year-old, a product of La Masia, accumulated 38 appearances for the eight-time Premier League champions, contributing to three consecutive league titles and a Champions League victory.
Gomez also expressed admiration for Guardiola upon his exit from the club.
Speaking to the media, Gomez said, per BBC Sport: “Being part of such a talented, ambitious and successful squad was a true honour and winning a host of major trophies, including the Treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on.
“I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future.”
He will now join Alguacil’s side for pre-season and will hope to make his official debut for the club against Rayo Vallecano in the La Liga opener.
