Manchester City’s Jack Grealish extended his congratulations to UFC fighter Leon Edwards following his victory over Colby Covington.
Edwards successfully defended his UFC welterweight title with a clear decision win in Las Vegas.
Grealish, a fellow Birmingham native, expressed his support for Edwards on Instagram both before and after the fight, posting messages to the British UFC ace.
After City surrendered a 2-0 lead on Saturday, drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace, Grealish, who scored the opening goal, may have needed to shift his focus.
Despite his efforts, the champions couldn’t secure the win, prompting manager Pep Guardiola to publicly criticise his players.
Grealish, who has scored three league goals this season, will now temporarily shift his attention from domestic duties as the club heads to the Club World Cup, where they will face Urawa Reds on Thursday.
