Michelle Alozie, a prominent player of the Super Falcons, has openly shared her discontent with Lauren James, the forward of England’s Three Lions.
Alozie expressed disappointment over James’ failure to extend a personal apology after an incident during the 2023 Women’s World Cup where James inadvertently stepped on Alozie’s buttocks.
In a notable moment from the tournament, James was shown a red card in the 87th minute for a challenge that brought Alozie to the ground and led to the unintentional step.
Although Lauren James publicly posted an apology on her Twitter account for her actions, Alozie clarified that, contrary to assumptions, James had not made direct contact with her to offer a personal apology.
“No, she did not reach out to me but the apology was on Twitter and Instagram,” the Houston Dash star told Channels TV.
Following the incident, the photos capturing the moment have gained popularity as regular memes on the internet, a phenomenon that Alozie amusingly described.
“I think it was kind of funny how it all came about. After the game, obviously, I was really upset and wasn’t really looking at my phone,” Alozie, who was featuring in her debut World Cup, said.
“So, some of my teammates were like ‘Michelle, you have to see this photo of you maybe it would make you smile a little bit’ because I was kind of upset.”
