Controversy surrounds Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo in Japan as the governor of Nagasaki, Kengo Oishi, allegedly used government funds to attend Ronaldo’s friendly against PSG in Osaka in July.
The match was played in Osaka, 732.1 kilometres from the Island off the coast of Japan by road. Oishi claims he purchased the ticket with his own money, but travel accommodations and travel funds came out of the government’s pocket.
Adding to the issue, the governor skipped an official meeting to attend the match, prompting demands for his resignation.
Oishi asserts the purpose was to discuss a potential role for Ronaldo in a future publicity event, but some officials dispute any existing deal with the Portuguese forward.
The incident has sparked a debate over Oishi’s intentions, with supporters arguing he acted in good faith for the city’s benefit.
The friendly ended in a 0-0 draw, and Al-Nassr’s next matches are scheduled for December 22 and 26.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, enjoys an 11-day break until his next game.
