I joined Barcelona for money, not for playtime – Ex Cameroon midfielder Alex Song confesses

Former Arsenal and Cameroon midfielder Alexander Song has admitted that he joined Barcelona primarily for financial reasons.

Song made the decision to leave the English club during the peak of his career and sign for the Catalan club, even though he wasn’t guaranteed regular playing time.

The 36-year-old explained that his main focus was on the opportunity to amass wealth, and he wasn’t overly concerned about his playing time.

“When Barcelona offered me a contract and I saw how much I would earn, I didn’t think twice,” he told Toronto Raptors basketball star
“I felt my wife and children should have comfortable lives once my career is over.

“I met Barca’s sporting director, and he told me I would not get to play many games. But I didn’t give a f***—I knew that now I would become a millionaire.”

The 49-time capped Cameroonian footballer ended up making 39 appearances in four seasons at Barcelona, winning one La Liga and the Copa Del Rey, as reported by transfermarkt.com.

Former Cameroon international Alexandre Song has secured victory in the Djibouti Premier League with his club, Artar Solar 7.

The former Arsenal midfielder made the move to Djibouti City from Swiss giant FC Sion in November 2020.

Song, who is 34 years old, was one of the players released by the Swiss top-flight club after he declined to reduce his salary in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
