Ghanaian youngster Nathan Opoku joins Leicester City

The signing of Ghanaian prospect Nathan Opoku by English Premier League club Leicester City has been officially announced.

The American student, who is 21 years old, signs a three-year contract with the Foxes after leaving Syracuse University.

Opoku will be immediately loaned to Oud-Heverlee Leuven in Belgium to continue his development after joining Leicester.

After contributing eight assists and eleven goals for Syracuse the previous season, the American player was voted the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Before relocating to the United States, the forward spent time in the Manchester City academy.

In his farewell message ahead of his return to Europe, Opoku said, “I am excited to announce that I am making the transition to professional soccer.

“Syracuse University welcomed me into their family, and my time here was nothing short of beautiful. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow as a player.”
