Ghanaian players to watch this weekend

Jordan Ayew is expected to start for Crystal Palace when they host Tottenham Hotspurs in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Selhurst on Saturday. Ayew scored the winner against Grimsby Town to qualify Roy Hodgson’s men to this stage but has failed to hit the back of the net since then. With Tottenham losing another cup game on Thursday to Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino’s men would hope to avoid two back to back defeats.

Atletico Madrid will welcome sixth-placed Getafe to Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday as they aim at reducing the points advantage between them and La Liga leaders Barcelona. Thomas Teye Partey is a sure bet to be handed his 18th league appearance of the season in midfield alongside Thomas Lemar and Koke. The Ghanaian will be eyeing his third league goal of the campaign.

Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah and Inter Milan will head to Stadio Olimpico on Saturday to face Torino in Serie A, with the hope of recovering from the goalless draw at home against Sassuolo last weekend. With only six points from rivals A.C Milan for an automatic qualification to the group stage of Uefa Champions League next season, the Nerazzurris will hope to avoid another upset. Asamoah is expected to maintain his place in Inter’s starting XI.

Ghana International Kevin-Prince Boateng has been named in Barcelona squad to face Girona on Sunday in La Liga. The 31-year-old made his bow for the Catalans in the 2-0 defeat to Sevilla in Copa del Rey without many first-team players. He would, however, hope to team up with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Dembele upfront to extend Barcaleno’s five-point lead at the top. Boateng will likely be used as a substitute.

English League Two side AFC Wimbledon will be counting on Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah for another fine display when they host West Ham United in the FA Cup fourth round fixture. The Dons pulled off a shock away win over Fleetwood Town thanks to Appiah’s late goal. The 28-year-old has since missed Wimbledon’s last three games due to injury but has been passed fit for the upcoming game.
