Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah applies for vacant Black Stars coach job

Former Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has submitted his application for the vacant role as Black Stars coach, according to Kumasi-based Sompa FM.

Following the resignation of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association has been on a hunt for a new coach.

The latest to join the race for the job is the Asante Kotoko legend, who is seeking for a third stint with the national team.

The former Asante Kotoko captain has been in charge of the four time African champions on two occasions and was recently relieved off his duties in December 2019 after his contract expiration by the Ghana FA.

The domestic football governing body are expected to name a new coach for the national before the closure of January.

Meanwhile, reports in the local media suggest the Ghana FA has shortlisted three foreign coaches for the senior national team job.

Chris Hughton, Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren and Hector Cupper are said to be on the list.

The Black Stars will return to action in March for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
