Former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor now CAF consultant

Former coach of Ghana’s national team, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, has begun a new chapter as a consultant for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

While his specific responsibilities are yet to be fully disclosed, it is expected that Akonnor will bring his expertise to a significant assembly of football delegates from across Africa.

This crucial conference, taking place in Tanzania, aims to discuss the development of youth football.

Akonnor’s appointment as a CAF consultant marks his return to a prominent role in football governance since his tenure as Ghana’s coach from January 2020 to September 2021.

Since then, he had not held any major positions until this recent appointment.

His distinguished career includes leading top Ghanaian football clubs such as Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

Notably, during his time at Kotoko, he secured victory in the Normalization Committee Special Competition and advanced to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Additionally, Akonnor served as the Technical Director for the Division One team, Accra Athletic FC.

As the Tanzanian summit progresses, more details about Akonnor’s role with CAF are anticipated, underscoring the significance of his contributions to the meeting.
