Enock Mwepu, a former Brighton midfielder, has been released from a specialized cardiac hospital in his home Zambia.
After receiving a hereditary heart problem diagnosis, Mwepu was forced to withdraw from football in October.
Brighton issued a statement stating he was “undergoing precautionary checks” amid claims the former Zambian international had experienced a heart attack over the weekend.
After being admitted for four days, the 25-year-old has already been discharged and will continue his recovery at home.
When announcing his retirement three months ago, Brighton said Mwepu was at an “extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event” if he continued playing.
Since then, he has started working as the Premier League team’s academy coach.
