Austrian defender of Ghanaian descent, Kevin Danso, made his mark at the 2024 European Championship on Monday, featuring prominently in Austria’s 1-0 loss to France.
Starting as a full-back for RC Lens, Danso played a pivotal role in Austria’s Group D opener at the Euros. Throughout the match, he displayed exceptional performance, engaging aggressively in every aspect.
His tenacious play was particularly effective against France’s star player, Kylian Mbappe, ensuring the new Real Madrid recruit had a challenging day on the field.
In a notable incident during the second half, Danso and Mbappe collided, resulting in Mbappe sustaining a nosebleed.
The former PSG forward had to be escorted from the stadium in an ambulance following the incident.
Despite Austria’s efforts, France secured victory with a 38th-minute own goal by Maximilian Wober, earning them three crucial points from the match.
