Tunisian side Esperance have agreed to offset their debt to Asante Kotoko with the Emmanuel Clottey FIFA fine which comes as huge breather for the Ghana Premier League giants, GHANASoccernet.com can report.
The Blood and Gold were given a 60-day ultimatum to pay the US$ 150,000 dollars (435,000 Tunisian dinars) to the Porcupine Warriors as transfer fee for midfielder Kwame Bonsu who joined the club in June, 2019.
Kotoko are facing a 10 May, 2020 deadline to cough up US$ 240,000 ( 700,000 Tunisian dinars) for illegally registering Clottey, who was still contracted to Esperance.
Kamel Laarousi, a member of the Esperance legal team told Foot 24 that the defending African champions are close to finding a settlement with Kotoko through a clearing procedure (a legal financial process that means deduction of the minimum amount from the higher amount).
Laarousi said: ”Esperance is one of the biggest teams on the continent and doesn’t want to harm the Ghanaian club and incur a harsh penalty like contributing to their demotion in the second-tier just because we want to exercise our financial rights.”
Esperance president Hamdi Meddeb has approved the decision to deduct the Kwame Bonsu deal from the debt that the Ghanaian club owe.
