Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has paid an emotional tribute to his sister Hagar, who was shot in the Ghanaian city of Berekum on Thursday.
Police have been on the lookout for the shooter who is reported to be on the run.
It was devastating news for Agyemang-Badu, who is also self-isolating during the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 11,000 people worldwide, including in excess of 4,000 in Italy where the 29-year-old Ghanaian is currently based.
“This is the time my faith is being tested greatly,” Agyemang-Badu said on Instagram.
“Although my sister Hagar is in a better place now, where no one can hurt her, it has not been easy for me to accept her sudden demise. I am even more broken that I could not say a proper goodbye to a sister who has held my hand as a child and was still doing so.
“Your loving messages, your condolences, your counsel, your unending support has pointed me to the path of healing and eternally grateful to you all.
“Thank you for helping me to grief, laugh and cry as I still remain in self-isolation. Your words however short kept me sane. Thank you!”
Agyemang-Badu is hopeful the culprit in the shooting of his sister will be found, but also warned for caution and safety during the hard battle to contain the coronavirus.
“I pray you help us find the culprit soon. In doing so to help my family, do not forget we are not in ordinary times,” the Udinese loanee continued in the statement posted on Instagram.
“Continue to follow the Covid-19 protocols. Wash your hands regularly under running water, sanitise regularly with a sanitiser with 60% alcohol or more base.
“Cough and sneeze in your elbow, avoid handshakes and most importantly avoid crowded places.
“Help us find the culprit without comprising your health and safety. Together we can fight corona and domestic violence. God bless you all.”
Agyemang-Badu recovered from a pulmonary embolism earlier this season and has featured four times in Serie A for Hellas Verona.
