Roma is reportedly contemplating making a bid to acquire Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
The Serie A team is currently facing a shortage of options in the center-back position due to injuries to Chris Smalling, Diego Llorente, and Marash Kumbulla.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma is exploring the possibility of adding a new defender in January, and Chelsea’s Chalobah has emerged as a potential target.
Chelsea is prepared to offload Chalobah in the winter transfer market as he does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, is eager to make a move and was close to joining Bayern Munich during the summer, although the deal eventually fell through.
The report suggests that Chalobah is not the sole defender on Roma’s radar.
The Serie A club might also consider reuniting Jose Mourinho with Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has yet to make an appearance for Ange Postecoglou’s team this season.
Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet is also being monitored by the Giallorossi, and veteran center-back Jerome Boateng remains an option after Bayern withdrew from a potential deal to sign him.
For their upcoming weekend match against Monza, Roma is likely to field an emergency defensive pairing consisting of Bryan Cristante and Leandro Paredes, who typically play in defensive midfield roles.
