Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has disclosed that Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella may be included in the matchday squad for the upcoming game against Brentford this weekend.
Both defenders have resumed full training, and during his pre-match press conference, when questioned about their potential involvement in Saturday’s fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium, Pochettino stated:
“We need to assess him [Thiago Silva] and Marc Cucurella. Maybe it is possible to be involved in the squad. Good news, if they will be possible to be in the squad.”
Silva has missed the last three games due to a groin problem he picked up during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last month.
He sat out the draw against Manchester City, the defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, as well as the victory over Leeds in the FA Cup midweek.
Cucurella, meanwhile, hasn’t been seen in action since December. The left-back sustained an ankle injury during the 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park and he needed surgery.
Pochettino has provided further details on Nkunku’s latest setback
Ahead of the Leeds victory, Chelsea manager Pochettino confirmed Christopher Nkunku’s latest injury setback, estimating his absence to be around a month due to a hamstring issue.
The player is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and the club will monitor his progress in the coming weeks.
Additionally, six other Chelsea players are still in the rehabilitation phase.
Carney Chukewuemeka (ankle), Benoit Badiashile (groin), Romeo Lavia (thigh), Lesley Ugochukwu, and Reece James (both hamstrings) remain sidelined.
Pochettino also shared disappointing news regarding Wesley Fofana’s recovery from an ACL injury sustained during pre-season. It appears unlikely that Fofana will return to action before the end of the campaign in May.
