Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to an injury. The 20-year-old, who is the Wimbledon champion and world number three, has been dealing with a right forearm issue.
This withdrawal follows his decision to also pull out of the Monte Carlo Masters earlier in the week, where he was scheduled to face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The Barcelona Open commenced with qualifying rounds on Saturday and marks Rafael Nadal‘s return to the tournament.
Alcaraz was the defending champion at the Barcelona Open, having won the title in both 2022 and 2023.
A statement from the tournament posted on social media said: “The player has suffered from the injury sustained in Monte Carlo, and did not have a good feeling in his training on Sunday. Wishing you a speedy recovery, we hope to see you next year.”
Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, is set to make his comeback at the Barcelona Open after withdrawing from Monte Carlo. Nadal, who has been sidelined since January due to a hip injury, is scheduled to face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli on Monday.
The Spaniard, who has won the Barcelona Open 12 times, is aiming to secure his 13th title at the tournament.
