Black Stars’ Richmond Lamptey loses father

Asante Kotoko is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Mr. Odarkwei Lamptey, the father of talented midfielder Richmond Lamptey.

The club confirmed the sad news via X (formerly Twitter), revealing that Mr. Lamptey passed away on February 25, 2024.

In a touching post, Asante Kotoko expressed their deep sorrow, asserting, “Asante Kotoko is deeply saddened by the death of @RichmondLampt8’s father, Mr. Odarkwei Lamptey, whose passing occurred last night. The thoughts of everyone associated with the club are with our deputy skipper and his family.”

Richmond Lamptey, a pivotal player for Asante Kotoko this season, recently earned a call-up to the Black Stars for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Despite the personal tragedy, he showcased his commitment by featuring in Kotoko’s match against Hearts of Lions in Kpando on Saturday, February 24, 2024, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Kotoko.
