Black Queens to play Chile in Turkish Women’s Cup opener

The female national team, the Black Queens will open their Turkish Women’s Cup campaign against Chile on Wednesday at the Starlight Sport Complex in Turkey.

The team will be making their debut appearance at the 8 team invitational tournament.

Ghana are in Group B of the invitational tournament with Chile, Northern Ireland B and fellow Africans Kenya.

After their opening game against Chile, the Black Queens will then come up against Northern Ireland B team and Kenya on March 7 and 10 respectively to complete the group stage.

Ghana arrived in the Turkish city of Alanya last weekend and have been getting themselves in shape for the tournament.

“We watched Chile at the Women’s World Cup in France last year and so, we have a fair idea about them,” Mercy Tagoe told Goal.com ahead of today’s game.

“We have already put some tactical training sessions in place that will help us cope against them on Wednesday.

“During our training here, there were one or two things we’ve introduced that I think will be very useful for us in the match against Chile.”

“We know their style of game is quite different from ours and when they tend to increase the pace of the game, we will try to calm and slow things down.

“We have organised ourselves well and also planned to provide antidotes to every approach they want to put up against us.”
