Bayern Munich have officially signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, ending his three-year tenure at Selhurst Park. The German giants met the £45m release clause in his contract to secure the deal.
Olise had attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, but ultimately chose to join Bayern.
The Bavarian club is undergoing a significant first-team overhaul in an effort to reclaim the Bundesliga title, which Bayer Leverkusen took from them last season.
This marks the third consecutive summer Bayern has turned to the Premier League for high-profile signings, following the acquisitions of Sadio Mane from Liverpool in 2022 and Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
At Bayern, Olise will join an impressive roster of attacking talents, including Kane, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman.
The club recently appointed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach after an extensive search to replace Thomas Tuchel, and they are now looking to strengthen other areas of the squad during the transfer window.
Crystal Palace now faces the challenge of retaining another key player, Eberechi Eze, who is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024.
Palace finished tenth in the Premier League last season, thanks largely to the contributions of Olise, Eze, and the in-form striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The team saw a resurgence after Oliver Glasner took over from Roy Hodgson as manager in February.
