Bayer Leverkusen is well aware of Barcelona’s keen interest in Florian Wirtz, but they maintain confidence that they won’t lose the talented German midfielder to the Spanish champions, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo.
Florian Wirtz, who is just 20 years old, has truly shone for Leverkusen this season, contributing significantly to their rise to the top of the Bundesliga.
He has notched up an impressive five goals and provided nine assists across all competitions. Unsurprisingly, his exceptional form has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s most prominent clubs, including Barcelona.
However, Leverkusen is fully aware of their strong position in this matter.
Wirtz has a contractual commitment to the club that extends until 2027, and the report indicates that Leverkusen, currently under the management of Xabi Alonso, would demand a substantial fee well exceeding €80 million to even consider the possibility of letting him go.
Barcelona, due to their financial constraints and a pressing need to bolster other positions within the team, faces substantial challenges in securing a deal for Wirtz, despite their genuine interest in the player.
Mundo Deportivo notes that the only aspect potentially favouring Barcelona is Wirtz’s previous expressions of a desire to play for the Catalan club, should he ever decide to depart from Leverkusen.
