Barcelona’s pursuit of Manchester City’s wing-back João Cancelo has advanced, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Ongoing discussions with the Premier League champions are underway regarding the 29-year-old Portuguese international. Manager Xavi Hernandez has expressed interest in acquiring a wingback who can contribute offensively.
Barcelona is restricted from proposing a complete transfer deal for Cancelo. However, there is optimism regarding the potential for a loan arrangement with a subsequent option to secure a permanent signing.
Cancelo is currently under contract at Etihad until the 2026–27 season.
As per Nicolo Schira, personal terms between Barca and Cancelo have been agreed upon.
Negotiations between the two clubs are set to persist, focused on finalising the structure of the proposed season-long loan agreement.
Despite being less favoured by Pep Guardiola last season, Cancelo secured two league title medals as he was loaned to Bayern Munich, who ultimately became Bundesliga champions, in January.
