Rachel Daly of Aston Villa has announced her retirement from international football.
Daly made her debut for England in 2016, scoring her first goal against Serbia.
With appearances at two World Cups and one European Championship, Daly earned a total of 84 senior caps for England, scoring 16 goals. She played a significant role in England’s success under Sarina Wiegman.
Daly started in every game of England’s journey to the Euro 2022 final, playing as a left wing-back as England won the title at Wembley.
She was also a key member of the team that reached the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final in Australia last summer, marking a historic achievement for the Lionesses.
In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Daly said, external: “I would love nothing more than to play for England forever, but the time has come for me to hang my boots up on the international stage.
“While today is an extremely difficult day for me, it also one filled with reflection and immense gratitude. Playing for and representing England has been a privilege.”
