Barcelona defender Julian Araujo is poised to embark on a season-long loan to LaLiga side Las Palmas, as sources close to the negotiations confirmed to ESPN.
The 21-year-old Mexico international is expected to travel to the Canary Islands this week to finalize the move, which does not include an option for Las Palmas to make the transfer permanent.
Araujo joined Barcelona from LA Galaxy last season but has been unable to make his competitive debut for the club due to the timing of his signing falling outside the transfer window.
Despite this, he has been training with the first team since February and was given an opportunity to showcase his skills in a friendly against Vissel Kobe at the beginning of June, allowing coach Xavi Hernandez to evaluate his performance.
Considering Araujo’s development, Barcelona has decided that a loan spell at a Spanish club for the upcoming season would be most beneficial.
This move will provide him with regular playing time and the chance to adapt to the challenges of LaLiga football.
