The Ghana Amputee Football Team clinched the championship title by staging a remarkable comeback to defeat Morocco 2-1 in the final of the 2023 African Paralympic Games football tournament held at Accra’s MacDan Park.
The Black Challenge approached the final with a determination to avenge their previous defeat to Morocco, where they had lost 2-1 during the group stage.
Morocco began the match with a stronger performance, applying more pressure on Team Ghana and forcing goalkeeper Razak Seidu to make several crucial saves.
They eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a splendid curled shot into the top left corner following a midfield error by Allotey, who had carelessly given the ball away.
The Black Challenge displayed an improved performance in the second half, consistently pressuring the Moroccan defence and forcing their goalkeeper to make some outstanding saves.
After sustained pressure, Ghana’s efforts were rewarded in the closing moments of the game when Hamza Mohammed capitalised on a beautifully executed team play to level the score.
With the crowd erupting in celebration and rallying behind Team Ghana, they seized the momentum and took the lead. Captain Richard Opentil Arthur converted a well-executed free-kick to secure a 2-1 advantage in extra time, ultimately claiming the trophy for Team Ghana.
