A French court has sentenced Sosthene Munyemana, a 68-year-old former Rwandan gynaecologist, to 24 years in prison for his role in the 1994 genocide.
Munyemana was convicted on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and participating in a conspiracy to prepare these crimes.
The former doctor was accused of aiding the interim government by drafting a letter that oversaw the killings of Tutsis and participating in meetings organizing the roundups of Tutsi civilians in Butare, where he lived at the time.
Munyemana, who moved to France after the genocide, denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyers plan to appeal the verdict.
Meanwhile, in Brussels, a court on Tuesday found Séraphin Twahirwa and Pierre Basabosé guilty of genocide and war crimes committed in Rwanda, sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.
