Delphin Katembo Vinywasiki, widely known as Delcat Idengo, has been tragically killed while filming a music video in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Authorities found the musician’s lifeless body on Thursday, with reports indicating he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The identity of his killers remains unknown.
Known for his fearless lyrics, Idengo often criticized both the Congolese government and rebel groups. His latest song, Bunduki (Swahili for “weapon”), condemned rebel forces occupying Goma.
The singer recently escaped incarceration after M23 rebels stormed Goma. He had previously been jailed for encouraging protests and challenging President Félix Tshisekedi’s leadership.
News of Idengo’s murder sparked outrage in his hometown of Beni, where protesters took to the streets calling for justice.
Congolese officials have strongly condemned the murder, while opposition figures are pushing for a full investigation and swift justice.
Idengo’s death is a grim reminder of the worsening security crisis in eastern DRC, where relentless violence has claimed thousands of lives with no end in sight.
#RDC : Ni l’horreur, ni la terreur, encore moins le recours intempestif aux armes contre les civils innocents ne pourront éteindre la flamme de la résistance à #Goma et dans tout le pays.
