There was no marriage between Wulomo and minor, it was a traditional rite – Chieftaincy Minister

Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Amoah Boateng, has addressed the controversy surrounding the reported child marriage event in Nungua last weekend.

During an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe, Mr. Boateng clarified that the video circulated on social media depicted a traditional rite, not a marriage ceremony.

According to him, “during the event a lot of things were said and the information came out as if they were marrying the girl to the Wulomo [Gborbu Wulomo Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII].”

He stated that in response to the public outcry, his Ministry, along with the Gender Ministry and the Attorney General’s office, promptly intervened by meeting with the traditional authorities of Nungua and the Ga priest implicated in the incident.

“Through these discussions, it became evident that there were no intentions of carnal relations with the young girl,” he said on Sunday.

Highlighting the utmost importance of the child’s welfare, Mr. Boateng and his team collaborated closely with the police to safely remove the minor from the Nungua Community.

The Minister’s prompt actions underscore the government’s dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of minors in the country.

As investigations progress, Mr. Asamoah Boateng has committed to collaborating with law enforcement agencies and local communities to uphold justice and accountability.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng previously stated that the girl in question is 16 years old, not 12 as initially reported.
