Lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst Beatrice Annan has uncovered startling information regarding a procurement document linked to the Ghana Cocoa Board, revealing the purchase of 15 keyboards for a staggering amount of C4,500.00 each.
Expressing her dismay on Twitter, Annan criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of reducing public administration standards to new lows.
She questioned the need for such expensive equipment, highlighting the party’s previous claims of financial independence.
“The men they promised they have, never had iPads and Magic Keyboards before assuming power? These guys bragged that they had their own monies.
The newest low in public administration is always introduced by the NPP,” Beatrice Annan stated.
This revelation comes amidst ongoing controversies surrounding the Cocoa Board, which reported a GH¢2 billion loss in 2021.
During a hearing with Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, attributed the losses to various factors including the decline in international cocoa prices, smuggling, and illegal mining (galamsey).
The spotlight on extravagant spending raises concerns about transparency and accountability within the Cocoa Board’s operations.
