The Coalition of Concerned Nzema People has stated that it is considering legal action against the government over the planned private sector-led petroleum hub project.
This move comes after the Presidency dismissed their petition challenging the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation’s acquisition of 20,000 acres of land for the project.
Despite the group’s objections, the Presidency has confirmed that the sod-cutting ceremony will proceed as scheduled.
In response, an Executive Member of the Coalition, Isaac Kojo Ndede, expressed frustration over the government’s handling of the matter.
He criticized the consultation process, questioning the engagement of appropriate stakeholders and asserting that if the government does not address their concerns, the group will pursue legal action.
Mr Ndede emphasized that proper legal recourse is the only remaining option.
“If you have to consult, is it somebody who does not own even an acre of the land that you have to consult or you have to maybe pass through him to get the right people and engage them? You see when you do first-class engagement and avoid the right people in the villages, do you expect that they will allow you to go scout-free and get the land?
“The way these things are being handled is what we are challenging and we are telling them that that is not the best way. If nothing at all, the best way is to seek legal action and that one is a must.”
